BARNTON CRICKET CLUB 9TH BEER FESTIVAL 2010

Well folks that time for our own beer festival soon comes around again does'nt it and what a great few days it was. We started the first night off on friday the 19th november with a great turn out by the local Camra guys and also the camra guys and girls from Liverpool, Southport and Wigan which was fantastic because the weather was not very good at all with fog and freezing conditions so a big thank goes out to them. On this night we were also presented by Ian who is the regional chairman for the Southport branch with the Camra regional club of the year 2010 award which covers not only the North Cheshire branch but also Merseyside, the rest of Cheshire and North Wales. This is a tremendous accolade to add to Barnton Cricket Club and also this is not an easy award to gain so a very big thank you goes out to Mike who is the Club Manager and the rest of the bar staff.

With 26+ cask ales on offer as well as 5 ciders there was certainly enough to choose from and lets just say you were not spoilt for choice. On the second day of the festival which was saturday the club was fairly busy for most of the day and when saturday evening/night came around the club was Absolutely packed out in both sides and the crowd were enjoying the singer and the disco that was on, and many got up to dance which was good and funny to watch. !! SO ANOTHER GREAT NIGHT WAS HAD BY ALL !

17TH NORTHWICH BEER FESTIVAL AT NORTHWICH MEMORIAL HALL

Well who would have thought after the very first Northwich beer festival that 17 years later they are still doing really well and now attracting more people to this annual event . It was so good to get back down to Northwich in Cheshire after missing out on last years festival due to working commitments. After having a meeting at Barnton Cricket Club in January this year with the Camra North Cheshire guys i just had to put my name forward to work saturday afternoon , and also saturday evening at this festival to catch up with some old friends and to also sample the many beers that were on offer. In total there were 60+ beers on offer as well as ciders and perries so plenty of choice to choose from if it was a first time visit for some people. The saturday afternoon session was busy and it was nice to see people enjoying themselves the bar was open from 12.00pm dinner time until 4.00pm early evening. After the bars closed down from the afternoon trade it was time for a clean around the bars and to check the beers over to make sure there was plenty for the evening session and to update the notice board with beers that had sold out. The doors re opened again at 7.00pm and lots more people started to make there way in to the main hall and to start to choose what beers, ciders or perries they fancied. The main saturday evening there was a group playing on the stage called Cheeky Monkey who went down well and had many people dancing to the ska songs and music that they were playing. The evening was going fast for us and when the horn went off for last orders the bars were packed with people getting there last drinks in, so all in all a great festival to work on and i must say a big thank you to the guys from Camra North Cheshire Mike,Gary Joe,Nick and the rest of whom had not put in the time and effort for this festival that if would not have gone ahead.

TWEEDIES 4TH BEER FESTIVAL 2010

Its always nice to get back up to Tweedies Bar which is joined to the Dale Lodge Hotel Grasmere in the Lake District. Now in its fourth year people will know it by its name which is the annual Grasmere guzzler beer festival . With a fine selection of beers and ciders to choose from your are certainly spoilt for choice (20 cask beers 5 ciders) these range from 3.5% ABV up to 11.0% ABV. This year the beer festival was outside in a gazebo which was looked after by alex and the rest of his staff he told us that they even slept inside this overnight to make sure nobody tried to help themselves to the beer that was on offer. The weather held out this year and it was nice to see the sunshine instead of rain showers, with bands playing and peolpe joining in it was great to see that this was a very successful beer festival..roll on next year.

WATERMILL INN & BREWING COMPANY INGS LAKE DISTRICT

We came across this place a few years back when we were on our way up to Grasmere in the Lake District to build one of our regular beer festivals. Due to the popular demand we were never able to get booked in but we managed to on a wedsnesday evening last week. This is such a nice place to stay and the staff and accommodation are great , it also has the advantage of having its own micro brewery that you can look round. I have put some pictures of the beers that they brew and are most certainly worth trying.
